Access Statement for

The Wheatcroft Bed and Breakfast

 

Introduction

We aim to provide for most needs of all guests in our 3 bedroom bed and breakfast. The following statement is a summary of our service. If you have any specific questions regarding any aspect of our service please do not hesitate to ask us, either at the point of contact, or during your stay with us.

 

Pre-Arrival

The Wheatcroft can be reached by the following:-

By Road - Situated adjacent to the A1065 8 miles either direction from Swaffham or Fakenham

By Train - Main line station Kings Lynn approx 14 miles distance

By Air - Norwich airport approx 40 miles distance

 

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

We have ample secure off street parking for several cars.

The surface of our driveway and parking area is level of loose gravel and is accessed by a five-barred gate at the road entrance.

The driveway is illuminated during low light levels with low lighting and there is security sensor lighting close to the house and parking areas.

The covered porch entrance is accessed by one 14cm (approx) step from ground level and another 14cm (approx) step at the main door threshold.

We have a doorbell to allow access.

Assistance with luggage is always offered to our guests.

 

Main Entrance, Reception & Area

We have only one main entrance to the large reception hall, direct from the car parking area. The door opens inwards.

Our checking-in times are from 4.30pm (unless otherwise arranged) and checking out is by 1030am.

The hall area flooring is of terracotta tiles, as is the wc cloakroom.

Our emergency bell is situated in the hallway and telephone for emergency use.

The door to the dining room is off the hallway.

Guests are escorted to bedrooms and facilities explained.

 

Public Areas - Hall, Stairs, Landing, etc

Our carpeted stairs to the first floor consist of 6 steps to the half landing then followed by 6 more steps to the first floor landing. They have a handrail banister to the left-hand side only.

The first floor landing flooring is of natural pine boards as are the guests bedrooms.

We have tourist information leaflets and a small library area which has a small table and chair for guests use.

All guest bedrooms are reached from the first floor landing.

 

Public Areas - Sitting room, lounges, lobbies etc

Our breakfast dinning room is situated on the ground floor and has natural pine flooring.

We have a wood burner, which is lit during winter months.

 

Dining Room,

Breakfast is served between 8.00 & 9.30am in the dining room on the ground floor.

The dining table sits 6 guests comfortably and has 73cm leg room height.

We play low level background local radio during breakfast times.

Breakfast is in part self service and waitress service as well.

Produce served is sourced locally from free range chickens & farms by our butchers.

 

Bedrooms & Sleeping Areas

All of our 3 bedrooms are on the first floor and have secure lockable doors.

Flooring in all bedrooms are of natural pine boards and do not contrast from the landing area.

Rugs on the floor are placed in areas to the side of beds.

Bedside lighting lamps are provided with 25watt bulbs placed on top of bedside units. Other lighting is of low energy light bulbs.

All bedrooms have large wardrobe facilities together with ample drawer storage.

Colour flat screen 15" TV's with remote control are provided and receive "FreeView" digital signal with teletext/subtitles.

Each bedroom is served with a hospitality tray together with a small electric kettle.

All beds have access from either side.

 

Bathroom, Shower-room & WC

Bedroom one - Double En-suite full bathroom is accessed 1 metre from the bed by a wooden door opening outwards. It has a full size bath to edge at 52cm (approx) in height. Power shower cubicle accessed by pivot opening safety glass door with step up of 28cm (approx) tray area is non-slip dimple and 98cmx72cm (approx) in size. Shower is operated by a twist mixer control. Toilet height at 40cm (approx). The basin is clear underneath and is 87cm high (approx). The floor is of tiles, the walls of tiles and painted surface. There is good colour contrast of floors and dark stained wooden bath panel.

 

Bedroom Two - Twin En-suite shower room is accessed 1 metre from nearest bed by wooden door opening outwards. Power shower cubicle accessed by bi-folding safety glass door with a step up of 30cm (approx). Shower is operated by a pull and swivel handle, tray area is non-slip and is 86cm x75cm (approx) in size. Toilet height is 40cm (approx). The basin is clear underneath and is 87cm high (approx). The floor is of non-slip tiles the walls are of tiles and painted surface. There is good colour contrast from bedroom to shower room floor and floor to shower by dark stained skirting board.

 

Bedroom Three - With adjacent private full bathroom accessed by wooden secure door one step from the bedroom. Full size bath at edge 52cm (approx) from the floor. Taps are of the mixer type with showerhead over the bath. Toilet height is 40cm (approx). The basin is clear underneath and is 87cm high (approx). The floor is of tiles the walls of tiles and painted surface. There is good colour contrast from landing to bathroom and the bath panel is dark stained wood.

 

Non-slip mats for baths are provided on request.

 

Grounds and Gardens

Guests are invited to walk around the 3/4 acre garden. Access is via the dinning room double opening doors with a step of 14cm (approx) onto wooden decking area. The garden is laid to lawn with small gravel pathways, all level.

There are seating areas for resting.

We have a small fishpond that is approx 2 feet deep with a wooden bridge that we do not allow access over.

All areas can be uneven and slippery during wet conditions.

 

Additional Information

All rooms have Fire Emergency procedures posted on the inside of bedroom doors. In the case of fire we have emergency lighting and alarms. Assembly point is the main front driveway.

We do allow service dogs to stay with guests, but no other pets.

Availability of a fridge area for storing medications and special dietary foods is on request.

In the case of an emergency during the night guests can sound the emergency bell in the hallway and /or knock on our bedroom door for assistance.

As with UK law smoking is only allowed at our two designated areas outside the building only.

Future Plans

Our future plans are to maintain the decor to a high standard and replace maintain facilities.

1. Up grade chair and TV in bedroom one, expected date by May 2009

2. Have wireless internet connection for guests use - expected by March 2009 (underway 13/02/2009)
